Diabetes: Indian Tarka dahl caviar lentil curry recipe

Aromatic Indian spices that will make this dahl absolutely wonderful.A must-have for diabetes!!

Diabetes & yummy recipe: Cheap, delicious and super healthy, Tarka dahl is the perfect comfort food. Caviar lentils don’t tend to disintegrate like the red lentils do and are still “crunchy” even after cooking them for a long time. Lovely name too for lentils!


  • 182g uncooked caviar or
  • black lentils
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1tsp cumin seeds
  • 150g onion
  • 1 clove of garlic
  • 5 cm piece of ginger
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric
  • 100g tomatoes
  • 150g chicken stock
  • 410g crushed tomato tin
  • 1tsp cumin
  • 1/2 tsp garam masala


  • Put the dry lentils in boiling water with a clove of garlic and some salt.
  • Let it cook for 30 minutes or until tender
  • In the meantime, set aside on a dish the chopped ginger and one minced clove garlic.
  • Cut some tomatoes in little squares and dice a white onion.
  • In the pan, add some sunflower oil and cumin seeds. Cook it for 2 minutes and add the onion, garlic and ginger.
  • Add turmeric, garam masala. Mix and let the onion become translucent.
  • Add powdered cumin, the tomatoes and a tin of crushed tomatoes.
  • Once the lentils are done, get rid of the water and the garlic clove.
  • Mix it with the rest.
  • Add a bit of coriander to your dish to make it look nice!


Diabetes & Carb content:

This dish is for 4-6 people. The whole dish is 13R or 130g carbs

  • 182g uncooked lentils equals to 10R or 100g carbs
  • 150g onion equals to 0,33R or 3,3g carbs
  • 100g tomatoes equals to 0,33R or 33g carbs
  • 410g tin crushed tomatoes equals to 2,4R or 24g carbs
  • Weigh the food only and divide it by the amount of carbs, that will give you how many grams there is in 10g carbs


👉 You could eat this as is, or you could add more chicken/vegetable stock to make more of a soup.
👉 You could also put everything in the crockpot
