Diabetes: Aromatic Indian tandoori chicken tikka masala recipe

Easy carb counting: Aromatic tandoori chicken tikka masala to enjoy with the whole family❤️

Diabetes & yummy recipe: If you are looking for a change and want to spice things up in the kitchen, this chicken tikka masala is the dish for you! You can pair it with potatoes, like I have here but you could add some fluffy brown rice too.


  • greek yogurt (I use Oikos)
  • ginger, 5cm 
  • 1 clove of garlic 
  • big bunch of coriander 
  • 4 chicken breasts 
  • 1 onion 
  • 1 clove garlic 
  • 1teaspoon of each ginger, garam masala, curcuma, curry, coriander
  • 2 teaspoons of cumin
  • 4 tablespoons of coconut oil 
  • salt
  • 660ml tomato sauce 
  • 1 can of coconut milk


  • Start with adding in a bowl a clove of garlic, 5cm chopped ginger, greek yogurt and a handful of chopped cilantro.
  • Mix together and set aside.
  • Brown the chicken without cooking it completely.
  • Once done, cut in small bit sized portions and add to the yogurt sauce.
  • Mix and leave aside
  • Then, start with the tikka masala sauce.
  • Add coconut oil with the onions chopped in little squares.
  • Let it cook on medium heat and add the spices, adding coconut oil if it is too dry. (You don’t want it too burn!)
  • Add the tomato sauce, big pinch of salt and coconut oil.
  • Let it cook until it bubbles and then reduce the heat.
  • Add the chicken and yogurt sauce.
  • Peel potatoes and make sure they are roughly of the same weight so that it is easy to count the carbs.
  • Add to the chicken tikka and cook until the potatoes and chicken are done. 
  • This dish is for 6 people

Diabetes & Carb content:

Remember that 50g of potatoes equals to 1R or 10g carbs.

If you take more than a sixth of the chicken tikka masala, your blood sugar might go up after 3 hours (fat-protein index due to the coconut milk).
