Diabetes: Delicious Belgian waffles for breakfast

Do you have diabetes but still want delicious breakfasts? Big or small, this brilliant breakfast waffle recipe will delight you! Sweet or savoury, it's up to you😋

Diabetes & yummy recipe: This homemade low carb waffle recipe is easy and makes delicious, authentic Belgian waffles. They are golden on the outside and really fluffy inside and don’t require any sugar or regular flour! The secret is in the egg whites!


  • 100g banana 
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder 
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla essence 
  • 3 tbsp oatmeal 
  • 5 tbsp almond flour 
  • 5 tbsp full fat milk 
  • 2 eggs


  • Smash the banana, I have a potato puree masher but you can use a fork
  • Separate the whites from the yolks. Set aside the yolks
  • Whisk the egg whites until they reach soft peaks. Set aside
  • Mix together the yolks with baking powder and vanilla
  • Add the oats and the almond flour
  • Add some full fat milk 
  • Mix
  • Incorporate the egg whites. Blend them into the batter, don’t whisk. 
  • Make the waffles. I am using an ice-cream scoop so they have roughly the same size
  • Resist the urge to open the waffle maker too soon otherwise it will stick to the sides
  • As a topping, I have added blueberries and a little bit of cream
  • You could add raspberries and strawberries that you have heated up (yum!) with or without fake sugar

Diabetes & Carb content:

The total carb content of the waffle batter is 3,23 R or 32,3g carbs

👉 You could also eat the waffles with savoury flavours: an egg on top or some cream cheese and chives
